Tottenham started negotiations with €20m-rated ex-Man United star
Jose Mourinho is attempting to sign Marouane Fellaini for Spurs, according to reports in Belgium. The Portuguese managed former Belgium international during their time together at Man United before the Norwegian tactician decided to sell the midfielder earlier this year.
But Jose has made the signing of Marouane his ‘priority objective’ at Tottenham. The report claims that Jose has even contacted Fellaini ahead of a potential move in the winter transfer window.
The 32-year-old midfielder is currently playing for Shandong Luneng in the Chinese Super League, and he has scored seven goals and provided four assists in 22 league games for the club. The Belgian midfielder’s current deal with Shandong runs until December 2021 with an option of an additional year.
But the Chinese Super League campaign has now ended, and Marouane will not be in action until March. During their time together at Old Trafford, Jose was a huge advocate of his versatility and even described the Belgian midfielder as ‘fundamental’ after a 2-0 win against Burnley last campaign.
‘Everybody knows Fellaini is not Maradona, but everyone knows what Marouane is and what he can give,’ Jose said last year.
‘I know him very well, and I know the areas he can play, the jobs he can do, this season you saw him as a third centre-back with Burnley, and you saw him as a centre-forward and as a number eight, which is the position where Marouane has more balance and know-how, but he’s crucial in both boxes, in the first third and the last third.’
