Turkish club held negotiations with €25m-rated Arsenal midfielder
Mesut Ozil’s agent says he is ‘pleased’ at the Emirates but has refused to rule out the opportunities of his client joining Fenerbahce once his current deal expires. Former Germany international has played more than 250 matches for Arsenal since signing from Real Madrid in 2013.
Mesut has helped Gunners win three FA Cups and reach last campaign’s Europa League final, although his influence in Arsenal appears to be waning. Ozil will have only 12 months remaining on his current Gunners deal come the summer and has been tipped to join the Turkish club by some media outlets.
The 31-year-old playmaker has strong ties with the Super Lig giants and his agent Erkut Sogut said: ‘You never know in football. ‘First of all, you can never predict the movement of players. ‘I have said it before, and I am saying it again that he is pleased where he is at Arsenal.
He is still has a contract to go, and there is no change. We will see what the future holds when the deal ends, but for now, there is nothing I can say.’ Last week, Gunners legend Paul Merson described the German playmaker as a ‘huge problem’ and said his astronomical wages are complicating deal talks with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
‘It would be a major disaster for Arsenal if they lost Aubameyang, however, the decision will be weighed up, and at least it will be the club’s decision as to what they do,’ Paul said. ‘Do they give him £300,000-a-week? I’ve always said they will have a problem until Mesut Ozil leaves the club.
