Turkish club started negotiations with £90,000-a-week Arsenal defender
Fenerbahce are keen to bolster their back-line by signing Arsenal centre-back Shkodran Mustafi. Super Lig giants have already brought in Mathias Zanka from Huddersfield Town this transfer window, but are keen to sign more defenders to their squad, with the Gunners footballer said to be an option.
Gunes claim a loan offer to London club has been made for Germany international and Fener are hoping they will be able to confirm his signing before the transfer window shuts in Turkey later this month. Fenerbahce have also been linked with Man United’s Marcus Rojo in recent weeks.
Unai Emery partnered Calum Chambers with Sokratis against Newcastle United last weekend and considering David Luiz joined Arsenal from Chelsea on deadline day, Shkodran could leave to get regular first-team football elsewhere. Gunes say Mustafi is also considering his options as he doesn’t want to sit on the bench throughout this campaign.
The 27-year-old centre-back, who joined the Gunners in 2016, still has two years left on his current contract at the London club. Last season German defender played 40 matches and scored three goals in all competitions. It is an excellent consequence, and he can do much more if he gets regular game time.
Mustafi regularly played in the national team and also helped them to win the 2014 World Cup which is already a big success for the footballer. Fenerbahce had terrible result in Super Lig as they finished the tournament in a sixth position. Turkish club already signed Vedat Muriqi from Caykur Rizespor and Zanka from Huddersfield Town.
