West Ham United eager to sign £70,000-a-week Liverpool defender

Former England international Darren Bent believes Nathaniel Clyne will end up joining West Ham United on loan in the winter transfer window. England international “could” be fit enough to complete a move away from the Reds this month, as he continues his recovery from a cruciate knee ligament injury he suffered last summer.

Darren believes Nathaniel will join the Hammers on loan as he is a better all-round option than the club’ current defensive options. I think Clyne needs to go somewhere and start playing week in week out. I think that could be West Ham, Zabaleta…his legs are going a little bit, and Fredericks is quick, but defensively he is not there.

But the 28-year-old defender is both, he’s quick, sturdy and can defend. I think he might end up going to London on loan, playing all the time and them not signing him anyway. A loan move for the English right-back would be an excellent piece of business for both Reds and Hammers, in my opinion.

The defender is highly unlikely to force his way back into the side given how Trent Alexander-Arnold is the German tactician’s first choice, while Joe Gomez offers sturdy cover. Neco Williams impressed in the win over Everton in the FA Cup, and I think Jurgen is likely to give him more of an opportunity in the side than Nathaniel.

Therefore Clyne needs a move away in my opinion, as it would allow him to build his match fitness and his confidence, and also put himself in the shop window to pursue a permanent move in the summer.
