West Ham Utd and Inter Milan eyeing move for Chelsea out-of-favour defender

West Ham United have joined Inter Milan in the hunt for Emerson Palmieri, according to reports.

The Italy international has played 55 times for the Blues since a 2018 move from Serie A side Roma – but was nowhere to be seen in Monday’s season opening victory over Brighton.

Ben Chilwell’s arrival at the club has dropped Emerson back to being the third-choice left-back in manager Frank Lampard’s pecking order.

And The Independent claim on West Ham and Inter carefully monitoring his current situation.

Antonio Conte’s Inter have been mentioned with Emerson over a number of transfer markets.

Last month, reports in Italy claimed the player had already accepted personal terms to switch back to Serie A.

However, Inter focused their efforts on striking a deal for fellow full-back Aleksandar Kolarov.

The deal for the 34-year-old star is not thought to have halted their interest in the 26-year-old Emerson.

Instead, they are reportedly keen to open negotiations over a loan switch with a permanent move costing in the region of £23 million.

West Ham’s interest comes amid the west Londoners’ own desires on Hammers star Declan Rice.

A possible players-plus-cash deal involving the duo has been touted but David David is determined to hold on to the homegrown midfielder.

Strengthening the defence is understood to be key for the Hammers boss in the final month of the window, amid reports of rejected offers for Burnley’s James Tarkowski.

They’ll be desperate to secure some incomings after the much-criticised sale of Grady Diangana to West Bromwich Albion for an initial £13million.
